Two men have been arrested following an aggravated robbery at a Northland dairy in which a shop assistant had a long-barrelled gun pointed at her.
Police said the robbery occurred at the Hilltop Dairy on Awakino Road, Dargaville, on Tuesday August 11.
Cigarettes and cash were stolen after the offenders aimed a gun at the 49-year-old shop assistant.
Although the victim was not physically hurt in the incident, she was traumatised and had received support from Victim Support.
This morning, police armed offenders squad members and a team of other police staff searched a house near Dargaville, and arrested two local men, aged 21 and 27.
Police said they found the weapon believed to have been used in the aggravated robbery at the house.
Both men will now appear in Whangarei District Court, where they will be charged with aggravated robbery and other offences, police said.
Detective Sergeant Jonathan Tier said the news of the arrests was a great relief for the victim of the robbery, whose life was "severely affected" by the traumatic event.
Police also thanked the public for the information provided in relation to the incident.
