New Zealand rugby officials have cited Fiji's Vili Satala for a late and dangerous tackle during the final of the Hong Kong Sevens.
New Zealand won Sunday's final 31-5 despite losing the services of Tony Monaghan, who was forced from the field with concussion after a heavy tackle by Satala.
The Rugby Union consulted New Zealand Sevens team management before citing Satala for the tackle.
Satala was involved in a second incident later in the match when he was sinbinned by the referee for a dangerous tackle on Craig de Goldi.
The Hong Kong tournament uses International Rugby Board judicial procedures, whereby citings must be made by the national union concerned within 48 hours of the match.
The NZRFU said a judicial hearing was likely to be held in Japan before the next round of the IRB's world sevens circuit in Tokyo this weekend.
Monaghan's injury means he cannot compete in Tokyo, and his place has gone to Taranaki's Brendon Haami, who leaves today to join the team.
