Three Tauranga men have been jailed for breaking into a family home, threatening to kill an occupant, and attempting to steal a vehicle.
Shelden Chapman, 18, James Teahu Meldrum, 20, and Corey Chapman, 22, were sentenced in the Tauranga District Court yesterday. The trio had earlier pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated burglary, threatening to kill and attempting to unlawfully take a motor vehicle.
A couple and their two children were asleep in their Waipuna Grove home when three men armed with knives broke in about 3.30am on June 9.
A silver chain and $645 cash were stolen in the robbery but when the 45-year-old father confronted the offenders, they threatened and assaulted him.
They also tried to steal a $7000 Honda parked at the address.
