A Bay Venues boss has urged the council to make a plan to tackle the city's run-down community halls and centres.
At a council meeting yesterday Bay Venues board chairman Peter Farmer advocated for consolidating the number of halls and centres down to "four or five really strong community centres."
A Tauranga City Council-controlled organisation, Bay Venues managed 10 community halls and centres, as well as six sports and action centres.
Mr Farmer said some halls and centres were badly located, run-down, and sitting on valuable land that could be sold to pay for a few really good centres along the lines of the Arataki Community Centre.
He did not specify which halls he thought might be candidates for change.
