The "serious consequences" handed out to a former college IT technician jailed for sex charges have pleased the school's principal and Board of Trustees chairman.
Gregory Allan Sayers, 43, who worked at the college for just under two years, was jailed for three years four months on Tuesday when he appeared in the District Court at Tauranga on six charges involving three victims.
Three charges stemmed from Sayers having repeated sexual relations with one victim over about six months.
In a joint written statement, principal Steve Lindsay and Board of Trustees chairman David Hill said the offending was hugely upsetting for the school and community, and had profoundly affected the people involved.
"As an employer we have very high expectations for the conduct of all staff, and Gregory Sayers deliberately acted against school policies and procedures, as well as breaking the law," the statement said.
