Todd Muller MP has been reselected by National to contest the Bay of Plenty electorate in the 2017 General Election.

"I'm a proud local National MP who shares the National Government's understanding of the importance of a strong economy and rewarding hard work," Mr Muller said in a press statement released today.

Mr Muller was first elected in 2014 and increased National's Party Vote to over 21,000.

"Whether you're enjoying retirement along the coast or working in one of the great businesses more towards the city, the National Government is backing our hard-working local communities to create jobs and support families," Mr Muller said.

He said the government has stood by the kiwifruit sector, has helped manufacturers and small businesses grow and made improvements to services like roads and schools.

"We're seeing results with the Bay the fastest growing regional economy, the fastest growing regional job market and more young people, families and our seniors are choosing to settle down here.

"In my first term, I'm pleased to have been part of a Government that has delivered a lot for our region.

"We've opened the Tauranga Eastern Link; committed $529 million for the Tauranga Northern Link; invested in new school buildings in Papamoa College, Maungatapu, Welcome Bay, Golden Sands and Oropi Schools; plus announced a brand new school to be built in the Lakes."

Mr Muller said it was more than infrastructure, there has been more investment in hospitals to keep up with growing population and he had taken a personal interest in highlighting domestic violence and emergency housing.

"I have opened an office in Papamoa, the first time this community has had local access to an MP, and introduced monthly clinics in Welcome Bay and Omokoroa to be as accessible as possible.

"The Bay of Plenty electorate has benefited from National's sensible economic management and track record of getting things done on your behalf.

"It's an absolute privilege to serve as your local MP, especially as someone who has lived here most of my life. I'll be running a strong campaign to ensure Bay of Plenty keeps its strong voice in the stable John Key National-led Government that has delivered a clear plan for New Zealand's future."
