Two people were seriously injured in a crash in Welcome Bay last night. Roads were cordoned off by police as power officials worked to repair powerlines. Photo / Andrew Warner, Dylan Thorne
Two people are seriously injured in Tauranga Hospital after their car crashed through a fence off Welcome Bay Rd last night and took out five power poles.
Police Senior Sergeant Chris Summerville said four other people in the car walked away with minor injuries.

The crash happened at 7.10pm nearthe Waitao Rd turn-off.
Mr Summerville appealed for witnesses or people with information to contact police who believe another vehicle was involved in the crash which he said was speed related.
A rescue team from the Te Puke Fire Brigade had to cut one person out of the car.
There was a total of six people in the car.
Units from Papamoa and Te Puke attended the crash.
The crash happened in the same area of Welcome Bay Rd where a 19-year-old was killed when the car he was travelling in crash with a mobile library buys last year. Read more here.
