Delays on SH29 for Kaimais roadworks

Motorists are advised of delays on State Highway 29 on the Kaimai Range.

The NZ Transport Agency said there were delays of about 20 minutes.

Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions were in place to allow contractors to rehabilitate a section of highway near Soldiers Rd. The work started on March 30 and was expected to be complete in mid-May.

The agency said traffic levels this afternoon were higher than expected and the work had been stopped for the day to reduce congestion.

The the work was scheduled to continue tomorrow.

It was being done outside peak times to lessen the effect on motorists, however travellers should plan for delays and consider using alternative routes, the agency said in a statement released this afternoon.

The agency apologised to motorists for any inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience and understanding during the works.
