Bay of Plenty Times photographer Ruth Keber headed into the Otanewainuku Forest with volunteers Harry Taylor and David Brown on Saturday morning to do a kiwi egg lift from long-term Otanewainuku kiwi couple Maui and Whetu.
It was the first egg lift for Mr Taylor.
Unfortunately the volunteers thought the egg would not be viable, but it was taken to Kiwi Encounters in Rotorua to be checked formally.
