A Mount Intermediate School class has garnered the support of the whole school in fundraising for the 2014 Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal for the Tauranga Community Foodbank.
In about a week, Mount Intermediate's room 15 has collected about 150 items of food to donate to the foodbank as part of the Kiwi Can Random Acts of Kindness project.
Teacher Jane Howard said she was proud of the effort the year 7 class had put into the idea.
The class designed a flyer to go around the classes and into the school newsletter, talked to their friends about it and spoke at assembly.
"We've got five big banana boxes. That has come from across the school ... it ties in really well with out United Nations study about child poverty. People say we don't have poverty in New Zealand but we've found out there is.
