Man impaled at AFFCO

UPDATED 7.42pm: Fire fighters are extricating an AFFCO worker who has been impaled through the cheek by a piece of machinery at the Rangiuru site.

A Fire Service Northern Communications spokesman said fire fighters were working to free the man while St John staff supervised.

"There is one person impaled with an injury through the face - the cheek - and we are getting to work extricating him," he said.


EARLIER: Emergency services have been called to the aid of a man who has been impaled on machinery at AFFCO meatworks in Rangiuru.

A Fire Service Northern Communications spokesman said St John had requested their assistance.

An ambulance and fire crews from Te Puke and Maketu were on the way to the scene.
