A Tauranga man will appear in court today facing burglary charges relating to the theft of guns after an armed offenders callout in Judea yesterday.
Members of the armed offenders squad accompanied detectives to carry out a search warrant at a house on Jonathon St about 10am.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said the man was not home at the time police searched the house but two guns were found there.
The 23-year-old man was found later in the day but Mr Turner would not elaborate on how or where.
The charges related to the burglary of a Tauranga city home earlier in the week where a number of guns were stolen.
"Our enquiry will continue to locate several firearms that remain unlocated," Mr Turner said. "They were adequately stored prior to the burglary."
Police would maintain an open mind as to the involvement of anyone else in the burglary, he said.
Mr Turner asked that anyone who knew of the whereabouts of the missing guns contact Tauranga police on (07) 577 7770 or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
