A man has been arrested following an armed stand-off in Manurewa this morning.
Police say that a 42-year-old man who was wanted by police for failing to appear in court was spotted by patrols Just before 10am.
The man fled to a nearby address where he entered a crawl space under the house.
When Police attempted to take the man into custody he is alleged to have presented a firearm at Police and shots were allegedly fired by both Police and the man.
Police withdrew and cordoned the area until the Armed Offenders Squad and Police Negotiation Team arrived.
Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum says a full investigation into the incident is underway and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been notified.
"Police are still looking for the vehicle from which the man fled, a white BMW X3 SUV/station wagon, registration HZQ478," says Detective Inspector Lendrum.
Anyone with information on this vehicle's whereabouts should contact Counties Manukau Police on 09 263 2709.
The man will appear in Manukau District Court facing various charges in relation to the incident.
Counties Manukau Police District Commander Superintendent John Tims says, "Police staff involved in this incident were faced with a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation and acted with great courage and professionalism to ensure the safety of not only themselves and members of the public, but also the offender."
