Wanganui Intermediate School were at their best for the final slog in the sun at Victoria Park at the weekend.
WIS came back from a 15 run defeat against Huntley School during round robin action to beat them in the final of the Embassy 3 Intermediate Cricket Cup in fading
light on Sunday afternoon.
In the playoff for third, Hunterville School beat West Country Schools - made up of Waverley, Westmere and Kai-Iwi players - by five wickets.
The round-robin matches, which also involved a Marist Intermediates team, were 50-over games, but the final was shortened to a Twenty20 for bad light.
Huntley batted first and reached 67-7 but, despite the loss of early wickets, WIS went on to reach 68-6 and win a tense match. WIS will represent the district at national tournament. Best batsman for the tournament was West Country's Beau Hourigan, while Joel Clark (WIS) was the best bowler and Huntley's Reuben Love was the best fielder.
