A Young Wanganui XI will be finalised today to play a representative cricket game against a New Zealand Defence Force XI tomorrow at Victoria Park.

Coach Dilan Raj is narrowing down his 12 players from the 15 which trained yesterday. Central District's professional Ben Smith will be in the team. The game starts at 11am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, cricket sponsors on the national stage, ANZ Bank, are calling for Wanganui cricketers and clubs to put themselves forward for $100,000 worth of grants.

The ANZ Cricket Grant Scheme has been announced for clubs, schools, individuals and teams of all ages to apply for anything be it bats, stumps, helmets, scoreboards or even pitch resurfacing.

Interested parties can visit www.anzcricketworld.co.nz and fill out an application explaining why they deserve the grant and how they will benefit. Applications are open until March 12.
