Wanganui rower Rebecca Scown and her rowing pairs partner Kayla Pratt have been shortlisted among New Zealand's sporting elite with their nomination in the Team of the Year category of the 51st Westpac Halberg Awards.
Although they will be at long odds to claim the prize in a field thatcontains the undefeated 2013 All Black team and men's world championship rowing pair Hamish Bond and Eric Murray, Scown and Pratt's inclusion is still a nice nod for a successful year.
Scown faced uncertainty after the retirement of her former world championship gold and Olympic bronze pairs partner Juliet Drysdale in 2012.
However, pairing up with former under-23 world champion Pratt, the new team claimed two silvers at the World Cup regattas and a bronze at the World Championships.
Five yachting teams, four rowing crews, a cycling team, the All Blacks, Black Sox and the NZ Breakers have been put forward for the team category. The winner of this category, with the Sportsman, Sportswoman, and Disabled Sportsperson winners will be eligible for the supreme accolade the 2013 Halberg Award.
