The Ag Challenge Wanganui U16 representative rugby team has made the final of the Hurricanes Division B competition after beating a Hawke's Bay development squad 41-27 in Levin yesterday.

The victory came hard on the heels of a 29-7 win over East Coast on Tuesday to give the talented young Wanganui side a finals berth against Wellington tomorrow.

Playing against a fit Hawke's Bay that featured some big lads, Wanganui started well, scoring two tries in the first 35-minute half. Not to be denied, Hawke's Bay managed to come back trading points to make it a 17-12 halftime scoreline.

Hawke's Bay began best in the second spell, drawing out to a 27-22 lead with 15 minutes to go when Wanganui coach John Church made a number of tactical changes.

Under the rules of this competition, all players must play at least one half game.

In the final 10 minutes the Wanganui lads rallied to score three unanswered tries, and turn the game around to win 41-27.

A win in tomorrow's final would give Wanganui the opportunity to enter the Hurricanes' A division next season.

Church's game plan to get recycled ball out to the runners won the day for Wanganui.
