Wanganui High School's Sevens rugby team has enjoyed a sensational month, capped off with winning the Palmerston North Boys' High School invitational tournament on Sunday.
WHS sent two teams to Palmerston North, with the B team making the quarter-finals as well as the A squad's success.
After disposing of thehighly-rated Tu Toa outfit 12-7 in the semifinals, WHS then surprised the fancied PNBHS team in the tournament final, scoring six tries to two in a comprehensive 32-12 victory.
Coached by Darryl Malcolm with assistance from Kent Rivers, the team had been victorious at the Wanganui invitational Sevens held at Pirates Rugby Club in early February, while coming third a week later at the Hawke's Bay Under 21 tournament in Waipukurau
Malcolm said the team are now preparing for their second trip to an invitational tournament in Christchurch at the end of April.
The team is: Scott Bowater, Te Rau Wirihana, Jesse Taupa'u, Rory Gudsell, Taylor Kirkwood, Villmoni Kori, Kameli Kuruyabaki, Sam Malcolm, Justis Manley-Green, Stephen Perofeta, Keanu Puki-Kaa, Kiela Te Awhe-Taylor.
