Meanwhile, after posting their only loss to WHS last week, East Club Sports Edge bounced back and pulled off another good win, beating defending champions Wanganui Car Centre Kaierau 48-45 on Monday.
The score was close throughout the first half with Kaierau leading 24-22 at the break.
East Club Sports Edge coach Trish Anstis made some positional changes at half-time, which worked well.
Emily Huwyler (WD) and Deshannon Matthews (C) applied tight pressure outside the circle edge, helping the circle defence of Jevada Kinniard and Julie Rowan to pick up numerous intercepts.
Karaihi Peina (WA) displayed precision passing into the shooters Aneka Erueti and Terehia Gardiner allowing them to finish off with some fine long shots. Kaierau came out in the last quarter with a new shooting combination that worked well, but East Club Sports Edge, held their nerve to post a final score of 48-45.
In the other premier match-up Nga Tawa outgunned Marist 44-39.
Nga Tawa coach Marama Cameron was forced to field a number of different combinations, with several of her players unavailable through injury, but she was pleased with the way her side adapted to the changes.
"Yeah, that impressed me the way the girls adapted to the different combinations," she said. "All the girls played really well, but the standouts for me were Georgia Nugent-O'Leary at wing attack and Jackie Gowler at the other end at goal defence.
"We're sitting about midfield on the table with a couple of wins and a couple of losses and next week should be a good game against East Club Sports Edge," Cameron said.
