A late comeback by Wanganui failed to clinch back-to-back trophies in the Women's Masters Regional Bowls tournament on the Aramoho greens.
Wanganui went into the tournament as defending titleholders but faltered early in the competition to leave Hutt Valley to fight it out on finals day yesterday.
Hutt Valley emergedthe victors despite a spirited display from Manawatu, especially 84-year-old Bev Budd who won four of her five singles matches.
Hutt Valley ended the competition racking up 29 points for a differential of +115 with Manawatu second on 24 points and a differential of +45.
The Wanganui women finished third on 23 points and a differential of +33 after a late comeback that included winning three wins and a draw in the final round.
