The A team of the Wanganui East Petanque Club came fifth at the NZ Petanque Clubs Tournament in Rotorua last weekend.

There were 18 teams of six players, split into playing groups of three, who took part in ten games over the two days.

Pete Hamilton (captain), was with Sheryl Parslow and Yvonne Futcher, while Claire Wilson (captain) was with Christine Strichen and Dean Futcher.

Wanganui East Petanque's B came 12th, being made up of Richard Turfrey (captain), Beryl Cowan, and Bill Ray, along with Tony Simpson (captain), Paul Anderson and Pauline Ray.

Hamilton and Parslow also experienced success in Adelaide last month with the New Zealand Senior team, who defeated Australia Senior in the Trans Tasman Challenge.

The New Zealand Open team narrowly lost their challenge to the Australians after an intense set of games.

That squad included Strichen and fellow Whanganui East club members Claire Matthews (Masterton) and Sharon Cannon (Napier).
