The Wanganui Summer Festival of Cricket continued at Victoria Park yesterday with the start of the under-13 tournament.
Tournament convenor Neil Kirkwood said six teams were competing for the 30 Overs Trophy which would be decided in finals day on Friday.
"We've got two teams from North Harbour, one eachfrom Manawatu and Horowhenua-Kapiti and two from Wanganui," Kirkwood said yesterday.
"Because we have six teams it allows us to run a round robin tournament to decide who is in the finals and who make the play-offs."
Most of the teams only arrived yesterday morning, so the tournament kicked off in the afternoon with play carrying on into the evening. Final scores from the opening matches were not available by press time.
Meanwhile, Wanganui Blue began well against North Harbour Burgundy on the No2 pitch. Sent in to bat Wanganui were closing in on a century of runs with the loss of just two wickets. Other progress scores were not known.
