Trainer races to season lead

There were 24 greyhound races decided in the South Island yesterday, with the nation's leading trainer, John McInerney, plundering half of them.

The new racing season has only just entered its second month, however McInerney is already streaking clear in the trainers' premiership having placed 65 greyhounds on top of the post-race podium.

Incredibly he has quickly built a 30-win buffer over arch-training rival and Hatrick regular Lisa Ahern.

McInerney topped last season's premiership with 584 training victories.

McInerney prepared seven winners at the Addington meeting, while further south on Ascot Park another five training successes rolled in.

Four of those races resulted in team McInerney producing the race quinella.
