It has been a tough start for the Manawatu-Wanganui men's team at the Toro Interprovincials at the New Plymouth Golf Club this week.

This year's squad is made up of Palmerston North, Fielding and Foxton golfers for the matchplay tournament, consisting of 15 provincial teams playing twice a day.

The team lost their Round 1 meeting to North Harbour 4-1, then had the bye, before a narrow 3-2 defeat to Bay of Plenty where two of the games were halved.

They rebounded to win their Round 4 match with the other combined team Poverty Bay-East Coast 4-1, before yesterday's 4-1 loss to Waikato.

Results
Round 1: Manawatu-Wanganui lost to North Harbour 4-1.
Junior Tatana lost to Jason Gulasekharam 4-2; Regan Cording lost to Cameron Jones 4-3; Regan McConaghty lost to Changi-Gi Lee 1up; Mike Atkins bt Mark Hutson 3-2; Greg Shaw lost to Jake Meenhorst 1up.

Round 2: Bye.

Round 3: Bay of Plenty bt Manawatu-Wanganui 3-2.
William Howard lost to Junior Tatana 2up; Henry Spring halved with Regan Cording; Landyn Edwards halved with Regan McConaghty; Shaun Campbell bt Mike Atkins 6-5; Jordan Golding bt Greg Shaw 6-5.

Round 4: Manawatu-Wanganui bt Poverty Bay-East Coast 4-1.
Junior Tatana bt Nathaniel Cassidy 2-1; Regan Cording bt Peter Kerekere 1up; Regan McConaghty bt William Brown 3-2; Mike Atkins lost to Andrew Higham 1up; Greg Shaw bt Tony Akroyd 1up.
