The top seeds dominated play in Taranaki at the Matthew and Co Real Estate Central Districts Squash Doubles tournament on Saturday with Wanganui players to the fore.

Hosted at Stratford's TET multisport centre, the three main titles went to the top- ranked visiting players from Wanganui and Manawatu.

About 50 players were in action from across the lower North Island, including doubles pairs from Wanganui, Manawatu and the greater Taranaki regions. The Open Men's Doubles title was won by top Wanganui pair (and former New Zealand reps) Josh Greenfield and Rod Bannister over Jason Burton-Brown and Croyden Rutherford (Manawatu) in a tough, but exciting four sets.

In the play-off for third place, Burton-Brown's fellow Manawatu teammates Grant Smith and Dave Clifford edged out Hawera's Stephen Bennett and Meville Holmes.

The Women's Open Doubles title went to New Zealand doubles champion Danielle Fourie and her Palmerston North clubmate Rebecca Clifford. They were too strong for NewPlymouth's Chelsea Aim and Jacinta Harrison, winning in three straight sets.

The Open Mixed Doubles was the closest and most exciting competition. Fourie added another title, teaming up with Palmerston North administrator Grant Smith to beat Wanganui's Ngakuria Osborne and Bannister in a long three sets.

The over-35s went to Burton-Brown and Rutherford and the over 50s to Smith and Clifford. The tournament will return to the Stratford club in 2015.
