One of New South Wales' top coaches is in Wanganui this week to teach juniors and seniors alike the fair dinkum way to shoot straight.
Gordon De Groen, head coach of the NSW representative team, is running the second of three courses at the Okoia range, focusing on youngsters today.
Target Shooting Wanganui's Paul Turner said everyone from B Grade shooters to Masters have learned something from De Groen's advice around techniques and stances.
The courses are for registered members of the five clubs in the region and De Groen has limited himself to about 10 people per session to give them proper hands-on training.
Turner said the lessons will be specifically applied by the members of the Wanganui Association team which represents the district at the Teams of Ten meeting in Levin on May 11.
All the North Island associations are sending squads, and Wanganui are having a trial matchup against Manawatu on Thursday night.
De Groen will run his course for juniors today and tomorrow at Okoia, then on Saturday hold a catchup with the senior shooters from the first course, before another junior course next Tuesday-Wednesday.
Turner said New Zealand Community Trust had provided assistance with the costs of hall hire and getting quality ammunition which was making a difference to the juniors' scores.
