Hutt Valley player Tyler Titov-Smith turned the tables on arch rival Hamish Mead when he teamed with fellow Wellingtonian Patrick Mitchell to claim the 16-and-under doubles crown on the final day of the Dunlop Slazenger Wanganui Tennis Open on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Titov-Smith won the first set 6-4 againstWanganui Collegiate ace Mead in the grade's singles clash before Mead from Manaia bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 and the title.
However, later on Tuesday, Mead and Collegiate teammate Bradley Wallis succumbed to a stronger team from further south to lose 6-4, 6-4 in a relatively close doubles final.
Meanwhile, Feilding's Kurt Amey franked his 12-and-under singles winning form when buddying up with Manawatu's Connor Backhouse to dispatch Wellington pair Satchell Benn and Robbie Barnsley 6-1, 6-2 in the grade's doubles final.
Meanwhile, Wanganui ace Paige Hourigan has shown why she was top seed for the Auckland ITF Indoor Junior Tournament at the Scarbro Tennis Centre by winning her second round match 6-0, 6-0 against unseeded Sarah Knighton.
Hourigan had a bye in round one of the competition that began on Sunday and easily accounted for Knighton who had beaten Australian visitor Hene Demiri 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.
Hourigan is currently rated second in the New Zealand ITF junior rankings on 205 behind Emily Fanning on 85. Hourigan's cousin, Kyle Butters, also from Wanganui, is also rated second in New Zealand ITF junior rankings on 202 behind Cameron Norrie on 10.
