With the champion stayer Thrilling Brat being offered at a minuscule $1.30 in the Final Field market for tonight's $21,000 Buy Sell & Exchange NZ Stayers' Cup, the TAB bookies are offering a special fixed odds quinella option, which couples Thrilling Brat individually with the other runners.
The Karen Walsh-trainedstayer thrashed his rivals during last Thursday's 732m group one heats when he left them to it, cruising home by an ever-increasing 10.25 lengths, clocking 43.62secs in doing so at Addington.
"Brat just doesn't let us down. What amazes me has been the way he has been leaping away from the traps," Walsh said.
"He came through his heat really good."
Litter sister Thrilling Quest surprisingly faded in her heat, ultimately winding up fourth. However she had her excuses, as Walsh explains.
"She had missed a fair bit of work after pulling up sore in her previous race. She has come through her heat much better and I expect her to be an improved dog for the final."
Waikato-trained stayers dominate the race with Cambridge trainer Arch Lawrence qualifying three. "I'm chuffed to get three into the final. Mr Chino just keeps on delivering. We know he will never flinch.
"I'm hoping that Bornato can get an early gap along the rail [from trap one] and if he does he certainly can get some of this," said Lawrence.
