Full on chasing action will be the order of the evening as the majority of the nation's leading greyhounds chase after final field positions for next Friday's two Group race finals.

Five heats will decide the chasers who will return to contest the $40,000 Wanganui Toyota Spion Rose Cup at Group 1 level over 520m.

The short course sprinters will engage in four heats over the 305m sprint for the Group 2, $15,000 Wanganui Liquorland Dash For Cash sprint.

The star acts for the Spion Rose includes the potent recent New Zealand Cup winner American Warrior who has drawn ideally out in the eight-trap for his heat (Race 10) for his trainers Dave and Jean Fahey.

Thrilling Boris is an exciting chaser for northern conditioner Karen Walsh.

He underlined his ability when he effortlessly defeated his open-class 520m rivals in a slippery 29.81s last Friday.

He is lining up in the second heat (Race 7).

The Fahey's prepared Opawa Shackley (Race 9) and Kava Blu (Race 6) to win previous Group 1 races at Hatrick and both are expected to deliver competitive heats this evening.

The leading prospect from the strong Lisa Ahern kennels appears to be Spare Some Time who has been allocated the one-trap to step from in his heat (Race 9).

She has a fair sprinkling of other qualifying prospects in other heats including the nicely drawn Timma Turtle (Race 10).

Angela Turnwald-mentored Miss Eldora to victory in a Group 1 event here last season and showed she is on-course to make this final (Race 8) when delivering her sound 520m second last Friday.

The kennel have other qualifying hopes including the regular Group race finalist Top Prosecutor (Race 7).

The Ahern trained Subic Bay is returning to defend his Dash For Cash title that he stylishly won last year.

He commences his defence in the fourth heat (Race 5).

Ahern holds sound claims of qualifying other speed merchants including Allegro Class (Race 2), Skuzi (Race 2) and Allegro Gun (Race 4).

Local trainer Freddy Kite will be ecstatic if he can advance his pair of proven 305m sprinters Sedgebrook Babe (Race 3) and Sedgebrook Magic (Race 5) through to the final.

Cambridge trainers Greg Hore and Peter Fergusson are bringing south a couple of capable sprinters.

Powder Jack (Race 4) easily won last Sunday's Manukau open class 318m sprint from the ace-trap and he draws that trap here.
