A blustery winter morning might seem like a strange time to be improving your summer sporting prowess but it worked well for 14 Wanganui teenagers this week.
The four-day cricket and golf programme, run by Cricket Wanganui's Dilan Raj and Castlecliff Golf Club teaching professional Tracey Corbett, saw the participantscomplete several activities while also having fun at the Embassy 3 Cinema and Wanganui Splash Centre.
They spent the final day having an ambrose tournament at Castlecliff Golf Club, followed by some driving practice where Corbett said a few of them tried the Happy Gilmore technique from the well-known Adam Sandler movie.
During the cricket coaching sessions, Raj said the group got to have a go at bowling in the nets and then watch back the video of their technique.
"It was the first time they've seen themselves, and you can't correct what you can't see," the coach said.
It was the first time a camp like this has been run in Wanganui with professional coaches.
Raj was not worried about losing cricketers to golf, as what was fundamentally being taught over the four days was running, hitting and catching that could be applied to many codes.
The coaches hope to run another programme in the next school holidays.
