A newly-established partnership is poised to grow the sport of golf from the grass roots up in Wanganui.
The Wanganui Golf Club has entered into a Partner Club Agreement with New Zealand Golf and Manawatu-Wanganui Golf.
Wanganui Golf Club manager Keith Stewart said one of the outcomes of that agreementis increased input of resources to the club from Manawatu-Wanganui Golf.
"Part of this increased resource is being directed at a revamped Junior Programme at the Club, integrated with a rejuvenated Kiwi Sport Golf Programme in Schools in Wanganui, being managed and delivered by Sport Wanganui. We have funding from Sport New Zealand for that programme," Stewart said.
In order for this programme to be effective the Wanganui club needs a junior co-ordinator who can be the contact point in the management of the new junior programme.
Stewart said the responsibilities of the co-ordinator include being the champion for the junior programme at the club, co-ordinating the input from others involved in the programme, being the contact point for Manawatu-Wanganui golf and Sport Wanganui, and developing (with assistance from MW Golf) the details of the junior programme at the club.
"This is not necessarily a hands-on junior coaching role - this will be done by others," Stewart said.
Anyone interested in the role should contact Stewart or Wanganui Golf Club president Colin Whitlock.
