Taihape entered another extraordinary chapter in the record books for Wanganui Premier rugby with an unprecedented fourth draw in a game against Marist that more may yet be heard from.

In yet another tense match for the home side and their visitors at Memorial Park, there were two sinbinnings after a fight which grew to include the reserves late in the second half.

WRFU club liaison officer JB Phillips said they will wait for the referee's match report, as well as those from Marist and Taihape, before deciding if any further disciplinary action is necessary.

In any case, Taihape were after a clean cut win against the cellar dwellers to finally break clear of Marton and Kaierau, which both suffered heavy Saturday defeats, but were forced to settle for yet another tied match to go with their previous stalemates against Pirates, Utiku Old Boys and Ratana.

"I can't recall four draws from one team in a season, ever," said Phillips.

Taihape had led 8-3 before a Marist try tied the scores at halftime and neither team could break the deadlock come fulltime.

Back at the Country Club, Kaierau raised their supporters' hopes as they went out to a 8-0 led against Border, but the visitors soon clicked into gear come the second half to score four tries and run out 36-8 winners.

Kaierau sniffed an upset after Jordan Farrington's five-pointer, but the boot of Mark Davis brought his team back to a 9-8 advantage, then the speedsters got across the tryline for the Waverley team in the second stanza, which also saw a couple of yellow cards.

A noteworthy name on the Kaierau bench was former Wanganui and NZ Heartland XV representative Darren Munro, who has returned from Petone and registered with WRFU a week ago.

Regarding talk of a Heartland comeback, Phillips said Munro has an injury that may yet require surgery come August.

At the Ratana Paa, Utiku OB claimed a statistic they can be proud of as they made it two victories over Ratana in 2013 by holding on for a 19-14 win.

The visitors struck early to lead 14-0 and ended up scoring all their points in the first half through tries from Brad Anderson, James Maher and Dylan Ratana.

For Ratana, fresh off beating Marton the previous weekend, there was only disappointment that second half five-pointers from Paora Heremia and Charlie Mete was not enough to haul in the team from Taihape.

In the Senior championship round, Hunterville finally managed to stop the jumping bean nature of the Stihl Shop Wanganui Challenge Shield when they made the first successful defence in six games by disposing of Pirates 20-3 on a muddy Spriggens Park.

Ruapehu kept pace with Hunterville, who are still playing with a game in hand, after they beat Counties 31-15 with their club now firmly having the cross-grade Weekes Cup in their sights with both their Premier and Senior teams well ahead of the rest.

In the Senior consolation group, St John's Tech continued their remarkable late-season transformation as they trounced Marton 34-0, leaving Marton tied with Kaierau at the top of the table after the home side squeaked by Border 20-19 at the Country Club.
