Hands-on involvement at all levels of netball has earned two Wanganui women recognition from their sporting peers.
Amanda Engert and Amanda (Mandy) Gedye both received service awards for their long-serving efforts at the recent Netball Wanganui 2013 prizegiving. To qualify, recipients must have been a member of the centre formore than 10 years.
Engert and Gedye have both served on the Netball Wanganui executive for 10 years, both have served as president (Engert is current president), and both have been active members in their respective clubs.
Earlier this year, Engert received a life membership from the Kaierau Netball Club, while Gedye is a founding member of the Sportsedge Club, newcomers to this year's premier grade.
Netball Wanganui executive officer, Robyn Walford said both continue to play at a competitive level for their clubs, while continuing to coach, manage and participate actively in sport at a local level.
"The input from both of these ladies over the last 10 years has been tremendous, and it is this depth of participation that makes the sport of netball in Wanganui as strong and successful as it is today," Walford said.
