Two St Johns club teams were still flying the Wanganui flag as the Clubs New Zealand Men's Fours Outdoor Bowls tournament reached the quarter-final stage yesterday evening at the Wanganui East club.
The Phil Corney-skipped team of Mike Bishop, Ian Broderson and Selwyn Prescott were taking on the Mercury BayClub team from Whitianga, skipped by Ray Yearbury.
One of the favourites amongst the initial 158 teams, the Peter Belliss-skipped St Johns four, with Sean Johnson, Kevin Coombe and Jared Adam, was in another quarter-final against a Club Mount Maunganui team, skipped by John Hardy.
The other quarter-finals in the national working men's club tournament saw a Porirua Club team face Pukekohe Cosmopolitan Club squad, while two Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club teams were in the other playoff, all hoping to win the Moase Cup.
The semifinals begin at 8.45am today, with the final to be played around 12pm at the Wanganui East club.
