Another year in the books for the sports team at the Wanganui Chronicle, and it was certainly a memorable 12 months.

My thanks to reporters Iain Hyndman and Zaryd Wilson, along with our fantastic contributing writers from the various codes, for all their tireless efforts in 2015 to provide local readers with a really diverse selection of sporting content.

Among it all were some very funny and insightful anecdotes from various sporting personalities.

So, as with last January, I present some of my favourite Whanganui sporting quotes from 2015, and thank you to all those interview subjects for taking time out of their lives to tell us how it was.

"I had a 10 cent New Zealand piece and this guy lost his [mind] when I gave it to him. He was walking around showing everyone he'd met someone from New Zealand - he had proof."

"I'm not a very good golfer. But you don't have to be, obviously."

- Rangatira Golf Club's Jill Adkins was incredibly modest about her "hole in one" at the course in February.

"He was very nervous on the way out, had to leave something in the lake."

- Aramoho Wanganui Rowing Club captain Jim Sommerville sets a somewhat graphic scene of the moments before Luke Watts won the men's senior single gold at February's NZ Rowing Champs.

"I could feel him behind me a few times, got a few nips."

- Swimmer Laura O'Keeffe knew veteran triathlon competitor Rob Gemmell was chasing hard when she won the Bridge to Bridge Open in March.
