Social bowls challenge for corporates and shops

Wanganui Bowling Club has arranged a Corporate Fun Bowls Challenge for the summer, specifically for work groups with players new to the game.

Games will be held on Monday or Thursday evenings every four weeks, starting on December 3 and finishing on March 3.

President David Gunn said the games will last an hour - covering 5.15pm to 6.30pm - and will be followed by a sausage sizzle and social gathering.

"It will be open to families and friends who will play as a team of four.

"The top two teams ... will qualify for the grand playoff to find the top bowling team from all the corporates and shops who have entered the competition."

Companies with large staff can enter as many teams as they wish.

Gunn said for those players with children, they are welcome to bring them and they can play on the club's greens adjacent to the tournament.

"Bowls is not just an old people's game.

"They will also have the use of our other green to kick a ball around and other things to do."

The bowls used will be supplied by the club, and players must use flat-soled shoes or sandals on the playing area.

The cost will be $8 per player on each night.
