Harvey Round Motors Ratana hung onto the Grand Hotel Challenge Shield but not without an arm wrestle as Dave Hoskin Carriers Marist suffered their first loss of the Tasman Tanning Premier competition, 15-10 on Saturday.

In a game without contributions from the goal kickers, both team's scored two tries in the second half with Ratana scoring the sole points of the second 40 minutes.

Veteran Wanganui prop Vaan Rauhina picked up a double in a player of the day performance, while Marist flanker Ryan Gill scored both his team's tries.

Marist move down to third spot on the ladder, with McCarthy's Ruapehu rocketing up to second spot as Utiku Old Boys took the full brunt of them losing the shield to Ratana, 14 tries scored in an 80-0 mauling at Memorial Park in Taihape.

Having wracked up the largest score in Premier in at least the past two seasons, Ruapehu's centre Logan Vaughan and representative lock Sonny Woodmass both scored hat tricks, while midfield back Tautahi Rawiri grabbed a double.

The visitors would have been threatening the century mark had they been successful with more than five conversions.

Integrity Motors Pirates now sit clear on top of the mix after a no-frills 22-3 win over Marton at Spriggens Park.

Narrowly up 6-3 at the break, the home side scored both their tries in the second half through Timoci Ului and Clive Stowers the Pirates winger scoring his in third straight game to take his tally to six for the season.

In Senior competition, Celtic remain on top after a 42-0 victory over the new Ratana senior team, while Ruapehu also picked up maximum points but their success was through Taihape defaulting at Memorial Park.

Pirates staged a strong second half comeback to beat Marton 15-14 and move within a point of the top four.
