The rollerskating nationals will conclude late this afternoon at Jubilee Stadium after six days of intense competition.

One of the highlights during the week was the Novice Ladies' Freeskating Eliminations, which attracted 23 skaters from around the country aiming for one of eight places in the finals late yesterday.

Mary-Ann Thomson, of Skate New Zealand, said it was a "very evenly matched and fiercely competitive grade" for open age and the entry level to appear at the nationals.

"Those competing all qualified for the nationals by placing in the top 10 at their area championships upper North Island, lower North Island or South Island."

Entry is free for those wanting to see the finish of the championships today.
