Hitting top speeds of 300km/h (187mp/h) Wanganui racer Adrian Rivers claimed the modified division of the New Zealand Drag Racing Association's Summer Nationals in Taupo at New Year.
Rivers was the best performed of the Wanganui entrants qualifying No1 and duly progressing through to win the final with consistent 7.3second passes over the standing quarter mile in his Blu's Bros Racing dragster.
Wanganui teammate Dean Scott was unlucky not to win the super sedan division after qualifying first with an excellent 8.5 second pass travelling at 257km/h in his Cheverolet-powered HQ Holden. Unfortunately, a line foul cost him a semifinal victory and a crack at the final.
A mechanical failure also cost 16-year-old Dallas Rowan a semifinal victory after qualifying second in the junior field.
