The River City Rollers had mixed fortunes in the Bay Of Plenty recently with a win and a loss in a triple-header roller derby match-up in Whakatane.
Spokesperson Mel McGhie said the team won in a close game against the Twisted Sisters from the Bay City Rollers Club, but thenwent down heavily to eventual triple header winners - the hometown Whakatane girls.
"It was pretty close against Twisted Sisters and could have gone either way. They played very similar strategies to us and that made it close. There was probably only a nine-point margin in it," McGhie said yesterday.
"We then played the Whakatane team and unfortunately we lost by a fairly hefty margin. Whakatane went on to play Twisted Sister and beat them to win the triple header."
McGhie said the tour proved valuable experience for the 12-strong travelling Wanganui team with two reserves and now the focus was on building River City Roller membership.
