Wanganui Collegiate student and Wanganui Golf Club standout Tara Raj successfully defended her Girls Individual Gross title at the Manawatu/Wanganui Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday.

Held at the Marton Golf Club, weather conditions were less than ideal, with the rain challenging players for the majority of the round.

WCS teacher Costas Thrasyvoulou said Raj kept her composure to take the title for the second year in a row.

"The Year 10 student has proven, once again, why she is amongst the best young female players in the country."

Meanwhile, Marton Golf Club's Lachie McDonald was back in the field after three rounds of the Barfoot & Thompson Akarana Open at the weekend.

McDonald was in a share of 29th after a combined score of 208 from rounds of 67 68 73 on the Par 70 course.

He was 14 shots behind former champion Gareth Paddison entering play yesterday.
