Quick hands keep spot in national team

The Wanganui region's speed stackers have been retained in the New Zealand team to prepare for the world championships in Germany next year.

Cullinane College's Allanah Millar and Wanganui Girls' College's Jasmine Anthony, who went to this year's world championships in Montreal, have been retained in the 22-person squad.

Anthony made the Top 10 of the female 13-14 years division and Millar earned a top 10 placing in one of the three disciplines.

They returned home and came first and third respectively for females at the 2015 national championships in Wellington.

Top competitor Ben Flighty of Feilding High School, who came third overall in the world and won the national championships, was also named.

Also included were the three members of the Arthur family from Marton - Caleb, Josiah and Sophia.

Caleb Arthur was chosen for the final team going to the 2015 world championships but did not attend.

The New Zealand branch of the World Sport Stacking Association said those selected to go to Germany in April would need to raise a considerable amount of money themselves to make the trip.

"It is a huge commitment for stackers and their families and some may not be able to travel next year," said the release.

"We take nothing away from them making the team and being, for their age group, the very best New Zealand has."
