Premier six to contest title

It will be a Super Six rather than an Excellent Eight when Premier 1 netball opens for season 2013 at Springvale Stadium tonight.

After a full round-robin of grading games, Netball Wanganui's executive committee settled on the sides to contest the top grade after the final matches yesterday afternoon.

Leading into the weekend, the prospect of eight teams getting through was being considered.

Netball Wanganui executive officer Robyn Walford said they opted to go with six teams to ensure a level spread of quality across the games.

Defending champions Wanganui Car Centre Kaierau A1 were automatic entrants and joining them are the newcomers East Club SportsEdge, which includes four former Kaierau players.

Marist A1 are there, along with Nga Tawa, Phillips Electrical Wanganui High School A1 and Collegiate A.

Tonight, WHS A1 and Nga Tawa play at 6pm, followed by SportsEdge against Marist at 6.45pm and Kaierau A1 taking on Collegiate at 6.45pm.
