SEASON 2015 will not be looked back on fondly by the three Wanganui teams in the Manawatu premier hockey.

The season wrapped up last weekend with heavy losses for Tech College Old Boys' men's and women's teams. Only Collegians finished on a high.

TCOB men's coach Colleen Baylis was extremely disappointed with a 7-1 loss to College. It ended a Manawatu senior division 1 season which wasn't up to scratch.

The sole goal for the home side went to Callum Wilbur, from a penalty corner.

"I don't know what to say to be honest," she said.

The team needed to be better prepared if they were going to climb above sixth place next season, Baylis said.

"They need to start earlier, they need to get fitter and they need to reflect on this season," she said. "They need to decide if they want to be competitive or not.

"If they're fitter they can learn to play different systems." Baylis said there was more team unity towards the end of the season but it wasn't enough to improve what ended as a three win, nine loss record.

Baylis hoped the bulk of the players would stay together next season and a few experienced heads would return to bolster the squad.

"Whether some of the attitudes change, only time will tell. There's six months between now and the start of next season."

Meanwhile, TCOB women also finished their Manawatu division 1 season with heavy defeats, going down 6-0 to second-placed College at home on Saturday before falling 5-0 to Palmerston North Girls' High in a catch up game the following day. Coach Ian Glenny said, despite the scoreline, the team played well and displayed a solid passing game. "The three top teams in the competition are miles ahead of the rest of us," he said. "We played some of the best hockey we've played this season. We were just unfortunate not to score."

Glenny said the Sunday game proved difficult for the players. "It's just hard playing twice in two days." TCOB women finished the season sixth, and seven-points adrift of city rivals Collegians. They were the only Wanganui side to win last weekend, hammering Rebels 6-2 in Palmerston North.
