Four Opawa Racing Ltd Wellington Cup heats over 520m today will decide which greyhounds advance through to next Friday's Group 1 $21,000 at the Hatrick Raceway.

The first two dogs to finish in each heat will earn that right.

In the first heat (Race 5) the multiple group winner Piggy Back brings solid track form, and a smart best 520m winning time south with him.

Kiwi Girl has been known to ping and run and she won't be too disadvantaged by the five trap.

Adding intrigue into this heat is the presence of Renee Ranger.

He was last sighted contesting a semifinal of the New Zealand Cup last November when he went amiss. He is going to have a take a flyer from trap eight.

Stay Young has the advantage of the ace draw.

Heat two (Race 7) is where Indiana Izmir can make his presence felt after encountering some shocking luck here last Friday.

His prior form was solid.

Riley's Mate is capable of beginning swiftly, which he must do from trap six.

Brighton Bullet, although better suited drawing wide, is no forlorn prospect from the ace trap.

Mammy Brown is resuming from a spell and a bold fresh-up effort wouldn't surprise.

The third of the Wellington Cup heat (Race 9) sees December's group 1 winner on this track, Jannik, chasing more big cups glory.

He has drawn nicely enough to advance to the final.

Ate To Much knows his way around this circuit blindfolded and he can make his presence felt from trap one.

Know Class is also a group 1 winner on this track and this bloke is likely to be putting in some big late bounds.

Jinjarango travels north again after having stylishly won his last two races.

Riggs has been scampering through his recent 520m assignments in slick sub-30 second gallops.

Going under that time barrier again here should be sufficient to see him taking out the final Wellington Cup heat (Race 11).

Check The Mail gamely chased Riggs home last Friday.

This recent open class graduate has quickly adapted to the rigours of racing at the top level.

The northern-trained pair of Ninjago and Benny Rox were in engaged in a torrid Auckland 527m finish last week, with the former prevailing.

Expect a similar paw wrestle between them when they clash in today's heat.

Know Attempt was sighted rocketing home late over 545m on Forbury Park on Tuesday. He is likely to produce a similar strong finish from the back of the field.
