The Wanganui Athletic women's team continue their unbeaten run and have confirmed their first semifinal of the season after a comprehensive 7-1 win over Hawera FC women on Sunday.
The Taranaki team was a bit on an unknown commodity for the Wanganui side in their Federation Cup quarter-final. Coach DaveDownes said what they lacked in skill they made up for in determination.
"They were probably better than we played elsewhere.
"They were pretty physical, they were motivated.
"It took half an hour to hit our straps and when we did we knocked in three goals in the first half.
Downes said the talented Hodgkinson is receiving extra training sessions after being singled out by Central Football, and she will be going forward for trials with the New Zealand age group teams at the end of the season.
Athletic's Federation Cup semifinal will be against either Palmerston North Marist, North End, or Taranaki's Moturoa as they all made it through their quarter-finals.
"It would be nice to have a home semifinal, given we've played all the other games away, but we're not banking on that one," said Downes.
