The Wanganui Rugby Union has adopted a wait and see stance before deciding whether to reschedule the two club fixtures postponed last weekend.
The weekend weather bomb forced the postponement of the premier match between Taihape and Kaierau and the senior game between Hunterville and Kaierau.
Kaierau had been sittingfifth on the premier points table, one behind Taihape, before last weekend's postponement, but Marton's 16-6 win over Utiku Old Boys at the weekend lifted them ahead of the in-limbo Kaierau and within striking distance of fourth-placed Taihape.
While a rescheduled game would enhance Kaierau's chances of making the top four, Wanganui union administrator John Phillips said the Council of Clubs operations committee had decided to wait and see how things panned out over the next few weekends before making a decision to reschedule. "It has been decided to hold off for a few weeks to see how things pan out. It might iron itself out depending on the outcome of upcoming games. But if it needs to be rescheduled it would probably be played midweek or on a Sunday," Phillips said yesterday. This weekend Kaierau take on Integrity Motors Pirates at the Kaierau Country Club, while Wanganui Harvesting Border play host to Taihape in Waverley.
While not playing the Hunterville v Kaierau match will not affect the standings of the top six senior championship groups or the bottom six consolation groups, it may have a bearing on which teams get home semifinals at the end of the season.
