Netball in Wanganui is in good heart, with solid numbers of budding young stars attending a school holiday development session this week.

Run by Netball Wanganui, the sessions were designed to groom young players and potential match umpires in the 8-to-15-year-age groups.

Netball Wanganui technical development officer Lisa Murphy said the Monday session for 8-to-12-year-old juniors was well attended, as were the 12-to-15-year-old players and 11-to-15-year-old aspiring umpire workshops at Springvale Stadium.

"The two-day programme was designed to groom the girls as a build up to the start of the season next month. We have been teaching everything from nutrition to core strength, ball skills, rules and positional play," Murphy said yesterday. "Pare Muraahi and Sammy Katene have been helping me with the players, while Reizhi Wongshu and Linda Bartels have been hosting the umpiring sessions. All sessions have been well attended."
