Munn focusing on a double

When Manawatu/Wanganui captain Josh Munn finds something nice, he wants to do it twice.

The 21-year-old amateur is supremely confident before leading his provincial team into trying to win back-to-back SBS Invitational tournaments today at the Invercargill Golf Club in Otatara.

Last year, Munn's team won a thrilling play-off with Auckland to lift the prize for only the second time since its beginnings 1977.

After being tied at the end of 72 holes of team stroke play, Munn himself made three birdies in three holes to beat Auckland's James Eng and secure the title Manawatu/Wanganui last won in 2002.

Munn said consistency in their team selection should help their chances of winning consecutively for the first time.

"We have almost the same team, with Junior Tatana coming in for Malcolm Wells, so only one change and all the boys are confident after last year.

"You always want to go back-to-back at a tournament like this.

"We'll be going out there with one thing in mind: to win it again.

"The course is playing hard and fast and the greens are great."

Munn is joined by Levin's Tyler Hodge, both having been in the New Zealand team who came runner-up at the inaugural Ten Nations Cup in South Africa.

The tournament is today and tomorrow with 36 holes played each day. It is an amateur trophy as it is deemed a national amateur teams event.
