Palmerston North's Scorpion Gym is set to unleash live mixed martial arts and Muay Thai action this coming Saturday night at the International Pacific College.

"Adrenaline" will bring fighters from across New Zealand who will compete in a fully fenced, six-sided cage.

Gym owner Jason Nicholson has enlisted the help of Vaughan Antonio, a silver medallist within Oceania for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as a former Muay Thai and MMA fighter.

"Vaughan has been doing the hard yards for this weekend. He is very passionate about MMA, and it's great to have him on board. He's a vital component of the show," he said.

The interest from local fans has excited Nicholson into promoting the growth of mixed martial arts in the region.

"It's the fastest growing sport in the world, so it makes sense to bring that action home where everyone can enjoy it.

"We will promote fightsport at any level possible, and do our best to showcase all local fighters as best as we can."

Nicholson says the great fan-base in the Manawatu will allow them to bring more events to the city.

Adrenaline will host fighters from Oliver MMA Kapiti and Auckland, Octagon Combat, Hawkes Bay MMA, Orphans MMA, Te Kura Awhio, Assassins Guild Wanganui, TPK Wanganui, Pacific MMA, and others are still to confirm.

Steve Oliver, trainer of UFC fighter Mark Hunt, will also be at the event while Dylan Andrews, also a UFC fighter, is rumoured to be making an appearance. Doors open at 6pm and fights are scheduled to start at 7pm. Entry is $20 at the door.
